The image below is from a Webcam located on the roof of an observatory at the South Pole. It updates every fifteen minutes when satellite connectivity to the Pole is available. The time shown is UTC (which is the same as GMT). Sunset and sunrise at the South Pole occur at the dates of the two equinoxes, that is 20 March and 23 September, so from around 15 April to 1 September it is pitch black and there is nothing to see.
