We used this event as an opportunity to try and help some favourite charities. We raised a total of 1,165,696 Yen! Of this 48% went to Save the Children, 30% went to ActionAid, 14% went to Friends of the Earth and 8% went to the Tsunami appeal. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed. It really helped to know that I was raising so much money while I was out there on the ice.

Save The Children needs no introduction. It is a large charity, but nevertheless is very efficient in the way that it uses donated funds. I have been very impressed with their approach ever since I came across some work they were doing in Africa when I was there in 1984. You can find out more about the charity here.

ActionAid is associated with the British School in Tokyo which our children attend. It's a newer charity, dedicated to fighting poverty worldwide. You can find out more about the charity here.

Friends of the Earth should also need no introduction. They are extraordinarily efficient with their use of funds and have been very effective at raising awareness of environmental issues, including those affecting Antarctica. You can find out more about the charity here.
